If you were under the illusion that My Mad Fat Diary was some teen angst ridden E4 drama, for school kids to witter on about over lunch, well then.. okay you're a little bit right - but it is so much more than that! And now it is back, in all it's '90's glory, with even more great music and even more Rae-style drama.
The show is set in the '90's, which means that if you were growing up around then, this whole series is like one massive nostalgia dose. We're talking pre-mobile phone, Oasis and Stone Roses music everywhere, baggy pants, check shirts - I could go on, but you remember, you were there! And if you weren't, then you get to see how the kids did things before all this new fangled texting and facebook and what not.
The end of the last series saw Rae finally get the boy of her dreams, Finn. However, now as they begin their relationship together, she questions why he would even want to be with her. She also worries what other people will make of their relationship. Ah, remember those days? When we all gave a shit about what people we didn't like thought about us. Tough times, for all concerned.
The show is actually based on a book written by Rae Earl about her experiences growing up. So what we are watching is ALMOST a documentary really! Almost.
