New Netflix documentary series Five Came Back examines WWII from a filmmaker’s perspective.
During the war, aside from the fighting on the battlefield, there was also a major propaganda effort going on behind the scenes.
The series looks at the work of five renowned classic filmmakers—Frank Capra, John Ford, John Huston, George Stevens, and William Wyler—and how World War II impacted their films while their films simultaneously impacted the world.
It features interviews with modern-day legends Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo Del Toro, Paul Greengrass, and Lawrence Kasdan. Plus it’s narrated by (the ‘highly overrated’) Meryl Streep, so what more could you ask for?
