Earlier in the month we heard that Netflix was 'this close' to signing a thirteen episode deal for a spin-off of the international 80s/90s hit show, Full House. And now it's been made official! John Stamos, who played Jesse on the sitcom, confirmed the news in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last night while Netflix have also released a statement.
The new series is set to be called Fuller House (yes, FULLER), and will kick off with an hour long special which will be a reunion of sorts for all the cast. It will then focus in on recently widowed eldest daughter DJ Tanner (Candace Cameron) who will raise her boys in that famous house in San Francisco.
D.J.’s younger sister Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona, all move in to help take care of D.J.’s two boys — the rebellious 12-year-old J.D. and neurotic 7-year-old Max — as well as her soon-to-arrive baby.
Sound familiar? Yep, it's meant to. It's basically a similar story but 'flipped', as John Stamos says in the interview below.
Stamos will also serve as a producer on the show along with the original executive producers - Robert L. Boyett, Thomas L. Miller and Jeff Franklin - who said in a statement; "The continued support of Full House fans of all ages for the last 28 years has been astounding. It is an honor and a thrill to catch up with these beloved characters and explore their lives today. The love you saw on the show was real. The cast has remained a loving family off screen all these years. We are as excited as our fans to finally bring Full House back to life.”
While Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix said; “As big fans of the original Full House, we are thrilled to be able to introduce Fuller House’s new narrative to existing fans worldwide, who grew up on the original, as well as a new generation of global viewers that have grown up with the Tanners in syndication."
By the sounds of what Stamos says below, all the cast will be returning too, including Bob Saget and hopefully the Olsen Twins, although they only need one of them in fairness.
Now that we've given you the information, can we all officially freak the hell out now? FULL(er) HOUSE is coming back! It's like a big warm hug from our childhood.
