The man behind one of the greatest TV shows of the last decade was on Conan O'Brien recently for a chat about everything Game of Thrones. George R.R. Martin is the creative genius that penned the original books that have now been turned into the hit show we've come to be unable to live without. And he's still writing them too, which worries us a little considering the faith of these characters lies in the mind of one man, or does it?
While Martin is of course the main dude behind the creation of the Seven Kingdoms, sometimes the TV show writers David Benioff and Dan Weiss will take things into their own hands. While this isn't exactly news as we know quite a few aspects of the novels have been adapted to suit TV, we did not realise those changes would involve killing characters before their book-death!
The author said; "As bloody as I am, David Benioff and Dan Weiss are always turning things up to eleven. So really, no-one is safe."
"Even the book readers who say, 'Well, this character is safe, he's not in any trouble because he's still in book five,' may have an unpleasant surprise."
He added, "I do kind of squeal a bit when I get the outline, 'Wait a minute, wait a minute, he's not dead in the books, he's still alive in the books'."
So essentially, those who have read the books and are ahead of the TV show can get off their smug high horses because they don't know sh*t either. So THERE. Point that out in your next book versus TV show debate down the pub.
