Given the unquestionably huge success of Big Little Lies - and the fact that one Meryl Streep is turning up for the second season - it should come as no surprise that HBO is doubling down on disturbing female-led dramas.
Case in point is Sharp Objects, based on the novel by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, and stars Amy Adams as a reporter who returns to her hometown after being discharged from a mental health facility and finds herself closely identifying with the female victims - all while trying to figure out her own muddled past in the process.
Believe it or not, this marks Amy Adams' first TV role since a short stint on The US Office as a sort-of girlfriend of Jim Halpert. Like Big Little Lies, all episodes of the miniseries are directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, who also directed Reese Witherspoon in Wild and Matthew McConaughey to his Oscar in Dallas Buyers Club.
No premiere date has been confirmed as of yet for Sharp Objects. In the meantime, here's the teaser.
