Yes we know you may want to roll your eyes at such a headline as EastEnders is mostly known for its over the top drama and never-ending whodunnits, but last night the soap managed to accidentally have its most timely scene yet.
It was a conversation between couple Tamwar and Nancy, who was asking him about his religion and The Quran. Tamwar then proceeded to quote a beautiful text from it which he translated as; "Do good to relatives, orphans, the needy, the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who's a stranger, to the companion at your side, and to the traveller."
"That to me, is what Islam is about," he added. "Be kind to people, family and strangers alike, and love them."
It wasn't a scene added in last minute either funnily enough, and was scripted in these last few months.
Actress Maddy Hill, who plays Nancy Carter took to Twitter after to say;
Thanks 4 all ur luvly tweets about the Nancy/ Tam scenes 2nite. They were not topical inserts we filmed them 2 mnths ago. Big up @dominictc

A poignant moment in Eastenders tonight with Tamwar explaining what Islam is really about. I can only hope it helped educate the public
