If you saw Josh Hartnett swannying around Dublin a few months back, this is the reason why. The new mini-series, which has been dubbed 'The Avengers of horror', sees Frankenstein's monster, Dracula and who knows else rampaging in bloody fashion around the streets of Victorian London. Except of course, we know that those same streets were actually Temple Bar and Dublin Castle.
Starring Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green and written by Skyfall scribe John Logan, Penny Dreadful looks suitably creepy and ick enough for it to be good fun. The little monologue they're reading perfectly sets the tone as it's taken from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
