We reported a few months ago that How I Met Your Mother was to get an alternate ending after the fan reaction was less than positive to the one everyone saw.

Well, it looks like it's leaked online and believe it or not, most people seem to like it.

We can't find a working link for it because, y'know, it's a leak and stuff - but we can give you the general gist of it. Obviously, don't read on if you don't want spoilers.

So, in a nutshell, it's basically everything up until the point that Ted brings up the whole Robin thing. They meet at the train station, he gets under her umbrella, they have a little moment where they talk about finding things they thought lost and that's it.

In fact, it even ends on "And that, kids, is how I met your mother."

And that's it. Boom. Done. Roll credits.

No 11th hour plot-twist. No Robin and Barney getting divorced after three years. No Tracey, the mother, dying and then Ted attempting to have a relationship with Robin and explaining it to the kids. It just cuts on the train passing and that's it.

According to sources on the inside, it appears as though two endings were specifically written and the showrunners simply chose the more daring and plot-twisty than the one we all saw.

Personally, we think this is a far better ending than the one we saw. There was no way the show could end on something revelatory like, "Oh, I actually wanna go bone Robin now because I've been holding a candle for her for the last twenty years" and have people frothing at the mouth with anger.

A simple, neat, well-told ending would have worked. Yes, it might be saccharine and more palatable - but this wasn't The Sopranos. It was a TV sitcom. There's an order about these things. At least, that's our two cents on it.

What do you think? Is this a better ending that the one we saw? Let us know in the comments!
