Up to now, there has really been no official ratings released on how many people are watching specific Netflix original series'. Sure we know how many subscribers the streaming service might have in a particular country, but just what exactly are they all watching?
Well thanks to Variety and San Diego-based Luth Research we now have more of an idea as they attempted to discover “one of the media business’s best-kept secrets” by assembling “a sizable panel* of Netflix subscribers in the U.S. [to determine] the most popular programs on the streaming service."
So what do we know?
Well Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is proving a huge hit and actually outdid House of Cards season three in its first month of release. (6.5% of subscribers vrs 7.3%).
While Daredevil, the first of multiple superhero dramas coming to Netflix as part of a deal with Marvel, seen an estimated 10.7% of subscribers watching at least one episode in its first 11 days on the streaming service, new drama Bloodline appears to be a slow starter with 2.4%.
It was also noted that House of Cards season three was binge-watched more than any of the other originals, "with nearly half of subs having watched at least three episodes in a single day in the first 30 days after release." Also, when all three seasons of the show are taken into account, the program has been the most popular series on all of Netflix in March (6.4%).
Netflix have declined to comment on the findings, and it's fair to say that we really can't take anything hugely official from them. However they do provide somewhat of a broad insight into what people are spending their time watching on the streaming service.
*They surveyed 2,500 Netflix subscribers who watch via computers, tablets, or smartphones.
