After the huge success of the UFC event in Dublin, the station has announced that they will have the rights to broadcast further shows here in Ireland.
The nation was gripped when Conor McGregor and a huge number of UFC fans took over the O2 and the national TV airwaves just last month, and the success of that event has not gone unnoticed.
At a press conference today in the Mansion House in Dublin, the station announced that they have secured the rights to broadcast UFC events here in Ireland, making themselves the first stop for MMA fans who want to get a slice of the action on Irish TV.
Normally a sport that has to be watched on pay-per-view services or channels, 3e will be bringing access to those events from America as delayed coverage, totaling over 100 hours of content over the next year. They will also be showing McGregor's next fight from Las Vegas, which is guaranteed to draw a big audience.
Kieran Holden, TV3 Group Head of Sport: “We are delighted to be partnering with the UFC. Our efforts in promoting ‘UFC Fight Night in Dublin’ earlier this year showed just how committed 3e and the wider TV3 Group is to this growing sport. The 600,000 viewers who tuned into Conor McGregor’s fight in Dublin can now enjoy future fights completely free-to-air via 3e beginning with Conor’s next bout from Vegas.”
The addition of the UFC, on top of the fact that TV3 have also secured the live broadcast rights in Ireland for all 48 matches for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, means that the station is putting together an impressive lineup of sports coverage.
