Tony Danza is making his return to TV for this new Netflix Original series called 'The Good Cop' which he stars in alongside Josh Groban, in what will mark the multi-platinum award-winning singer's first lead role.
The upcoming police series hails from 'Monk' creator Andy Brecman and sees Danza playing Tony Sr., a disgraced, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr. (Groban) an earnest, obsessively honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules.
This "odd couple" become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice. Also joining the cast are Monica Barbaro, Isiah Whitlock, Jr and Bill Kottkamp.
This will mark Danza's first television role in quite some time. Those of you of a certain, eh, vintage will no doubt remember 'Who's the Boss', an American sitcom that ran from 1984-1992 and starred Tony Danza as live-in housekeeper to a divorced advertising executive and her family. If that plotline sounds familiar, there was also a UK version called 'The Upper Hand'and much more adaptions of this show made around the world, while it also became one of the biggest successes in syndication history.
Before 'Who's the Boss', Tony Danza had already established himself while co-starring in the classic sitcom 'Taxi', which ran from 1978-1983, but it was 'Who's the Boss' that made him a household name in America and beyond. Since then, Danza went on to host his own daytime talk show in the States but has mostly spent his time working on Broadway.
'The Good Cop' arrives on Netflix on September 21st.
