Don't touch that dial: There's nothing wrong with your TV, the schedules have been altered so as to allow room for tributes to former South African President Nelson Mandela.

RTE pushed Irish Pictorial Weekly aside last night to make room for an extended Prime Time memorial, while the BBC cut away from last year's Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Special to deliver the sad news of Mr Mandela's passing. As far as we're aware, there won't be any major changes to Irish TV channels this evening, but those of you watching the major UK channels will need to note the following:

Radio Times reports that Nelson Mandela: The Fight for Freedom will take the place of Live at the Apollo on BBC One tonight, while Have I Got News For You will now show at the later time of 11.20pm. Over on BBC Two, Newsnight will air a special extended edition at 10.30pm. Meanwhile on ITV Nelson Mandela: His Life And Legacy - fronted by ITV News presenter Mark Austin - takes the place of The Grudge 2 at 11.20pm.

And if the Mandela coverage is what you're after this evening, you can catch the world premiere of The Making of Mandela, a new original documentary narrated by Homeland's David Harewood on The Discovery Channel at 8pm, plus 2011 film Nelson Mandela: The Long Walk on National Geographic at 9pm.
