We haven't seen the last of Mulder and Scully just yet.
Fourteen years after the show concluded its nine season run, we were gifted a mini event series of the X-Files last year which reminded us how great but also how frustratingly bad the show can be. The six episodes came and went all too quickly and without any official confirmation that we would see more episodes in the future, it looked like that could be it for the show. Last summer Gillian Anderson said that she hadn't had any conversations about the future of the show and had been preparing to move on from it.
Well it looks like Fox finally had that conversation with Anderson and Duchovny because the network announced yesterday that The X-Files would be returning for another ten episodes during the 2017/2018 season.
“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” Fox Broadcasting Company President David Madden said in a press release. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”
Fox also released the below poster and we'll be damned if it hasn't already gotten us excited for the new season.
Filming is expected to begin in the summer.
