Executive Producer David Bernad has dropped a few little nuggets about what fans can expect from season two of the tragic dramedy series.
'The White Lotus' season two will hit our screens this October, which will pick up with another bunch of sickeningly rich snobs as they attempt to have a relaxing holiday in Sicily while their egos get in the way.
Jennifer Coolidge's character Tanya and her eventual love interest Greg, played by Jon Gries, are the only two actors from season one who will be returning for another stay at The White Lotus resort. But this time around, with the drama moving from Hawaii to Europe, don't expect this to be just another "retreat" of a similar storyline.
The Mike White semi-anthology series has Executive Producer David Bernad on board, with the pair having worked together for over 13 years. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about what's in store for the new cast of characters, who will be lead by Aubrey Plaza, Theo James, Will Sharpe, Tom Hollander, Adam DiMarco, Leo Woodall and more, Bernad teased that we're about to see a "completely different idea" unfold.
He teased: "What I’m really proud of in season two is it’s a completely different idea. Season one is very specific to Hawaii. Season two is very specific to Sicily and the issues that are going on — the cultural, thematic ideas of Sicily are obviously much different than Hawaii.
"When you watch season two, there’s going to be no feeling of, 'Oh, this is a retread.' It feels like its own moral tale, and has its own vibe. But it also feels in the same DNA. Cristobal [Tapia de Veer], the composer, is back, and it’ll feel connected spiritually, but it is its own complete idea. This is Mike’s brilliance: When you watch the first episode, you will have no idea where the show is going. I think it’ll have that same addictive quality. You’re going to want to find out where these characters are going, but you’ll never be able to predict.
"And Jennifer Coolidge, obviously, she’s the fucking greatest. She has a lot of amazing things to do in season two."
Season one of the hit HBO Max series earned itself 20 Emmy Award nominations this year, with the cast of Coolidge, Sydney Sweeney, Connie Britton, Jake Lacy, Natasha Rothwell, Alexandra Daddario, Steve Zahn and Murray Bartlett all being nominated. They have also expressed interest in returning for future instalments in the franchise.
'The White Lotus' season two will premiere on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW this October.
