The sci-fi loving siblings who gave us The Matrix, V for Vendetta and Cloud Atlas have finally taken their first tentative steps into television. That's right, the Wachowskis are working on their first ever TV project, and it's going to be streamed exclusively on Netflix later this year.
Andy and Lana Wachowski will be teaming up with J. Michael Straczynski, creator of the Hugo Award-winning TV series Babylon 5, and Georgeville Television, to produce a brand new 10-part science fiction thriller called Sense8. It will join the likes of upcoming supernatural thriller Hemlock Grove and political drama House of Cards, to become one of the only original TV shows that is exclusively available to Netflix users. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos is rather excited about it.
"Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time," Sarandos said. "Their incredible creations are favourites of Netflix members globally and we can’t wait to bringSense8 to life."
And it seems the siblings are equally excited about the project. "We're excited to work with Netflix and Georgeville Television on this project, and we've wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy," they said. "Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox Sense8 was born."
"We are proud to be working with Netflix on this new series," Straczynski added. "Lana, Andy, and I are fans of each other’s creations, and have been looking for something to do together for nearly a decade."
So, are you looking forward to seeing what the Wachowskis and Straczynski have to to offer on the small screen? Because we most certainly are!
