Running from 2001 up until 2013, 'Futurama' was the first animated series 'Simpsons' creator Matt Groening worked that wasn't The Simpsons.
Set in the year 3000, it featured a talking robot, an aged, insane professor, a one-eyed mutant and a Jamaican accountant. And the headless body of Richard Nixon. 'Futurama' blended high-brow sci-fi with broad animated comedy and wasn't a hit initially. However, it did develop a loyal fanbase over the years.
