After the massive success of Blue Planet II last year and Planet Earth II the year before, we’re only too delighted that BBC have announced a new wildlife series.
Moreover, the team behind Planet Earth II and Life Story are producing it while the legend that is David Attenborough will act as presenter and narrator.
The new show is called Dynasty and sees each episode of its five-part series focus on an individual animal (the lion, hunting dog, chimpanzee, tiger and emperor penguin) during the most important period of its life.
The name is inspired by the fact that each animal is a ruler, with the show examining how each of them protects their family, territory and lineage.
The series has been four years in the making and like its predecessors, has been described as an ‘intimate animal drama.’
Mike Gunton, executive producer, said: "After making Planet Earth II it's very exciting to now have the chance to show another, and I think even more intense and gripping, perspective on the lives of our planets most impressive, yet vulnerable creatures.”
Tom McDonald, Head of Commissioning, Natural History and Specialist Factual, added that the series is “distinctive” and “unique”, indicating that the series will also take an environmental approach as it provides “a gripping portrait of our planet at a tipping point for the animals, their habitats and our world.”
The series will debut on BBC One later this year.
