Peep Show is coming to an end, it seems. The hit show which has been running for a decade will finish up after the next series. The head of comedy in Channel 4 revealed that they are currently in talks about how to wrap up the long running sitcom.
In an interview with Chortle, Phil Clarke, Head of Comedy, said that the show would be ending 'for sure' and now it was just a matter of 'winding down the programme. 'We’re talking about Peep Show, how that's going to be rounded off. The discussion is about how it's going to conclude.' he added. The show, which starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb as two dysfunctional housemates, ran for a successful eight series and has now just been commissioned for a ninth and final series. The shows writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong have won numerous awards for the show including the Rose d'Or award.
Webb had spoke previously of how a meeting earlier in the year had confirmed that this might be the show's last series. 'I've been sort of coasting on Peep Show. So now it's kind of,'When I grow up, I'm going to have to be an actor if I'm not careful' 'I wouldn't expect them to go through a billboard on the edge of a cliff in a double-decker bus and explode - we're never going to shoot it in the head quite like that - but it might be time to plan for what happens afterwards, he added.
With both Peep Show and the IT crowd leaving our screens for good, Channel four did confirm that we can expect some new comedy from Graham Linehan. Not giving too much away, Clarke said, 'We're doing another thing with Graham. He's got something else in that he's working with us on. So hopefully you'll see that next year.'
