The new series is an eight-part dramedy set in Dublin and boasts an all-star Irish cast.
'Normal People' and 'The Favourite' production company Element Pictures has kicked off production on their latest TV series - 'The Dry'.
The series stars Ciarán Hinds ('Rome'), Roisin Gallagher ('The Fall'), Pom Boyd ('Frank of Ireland'), Siobhán Cullen ('Origin'), Moe Dunford ('Vikings') and newcomer Adam Richardson.
Roisin will play the lead as a woman named Shiv Sheridan who returns to her family home to Dublin for a new, sober life after years of partying in London - hence the "dry-ness" of it all.
'The Dry' is a BritBox UK commission, in conjunction with Element Pictures, Screen Ireland, ITV Studios and RTÉ. The series is written by screenwriter Nancy Harris ('Secret Diary Of A Call Girl') and director Paddy Breathnach ('Shrooms') will take the helm.
Element Pictures had this to say about the upcoming series: “In 'The Dry', Nancy Harris has created an irreverent, hilarious, and deeply moving story of addiction, recovery and fractured family relationships. We are thrilled to be working with Nancy, the inimitable Paddy Breathnach and our massively talented Irish cast and crew to bring the chaotic world of the Sheridan family to the BritBox audience."
Ed Guiney and Emma Norton, who both worked on Sally Rooney's adaptation of 'Normal People', as well as the upcoming 'Conversations With Friends', will also be executive producers on 'The Dry'.
Element Pictures began filming on Sally Rooney's 'Normal People' follow-up 'Conversations With Friends' earlier this year in April. The series which stars Sasha Lane, Joe Alwyn, Jemima Kirke and Alison Oliver is due for release in 2022.
