They may have just landed him with a new assistant, but if the rumours are to be believed, it looks like Matt Smith's time as the Time Lord is almost up! Yup, there are a few rumours spreading around the interweb, and they're all saying the same thing: The Time Lord is regenerating this Christmas! Could it be?
As per The Sun, Smith will be on hand to film the rest of Season 7.5 and a Christmas special, before bowing out of the role after four years in the Tardis. The report rings true when you think back to his appearance on Jonathan Ross last Saturday night. Wossy is clearly a bit of a Doctor Who superfan, we honestly think he asked more questions about the plot lines than he did about Matt... Getting back to the point, during the interview Smith did confirm that he was only contracted for the coming year. "At the moment, it's 2013 and we will see what 2014 holds", he said. Ominous? You decide.
We just feel sorry for poor Clara Oswald, aka Jenna Louise Coleman. Sure hasn't she only arrived on the scene, and already yer man is leaving her behind? And there we were thinking she'd be the one who'd finally snap The Doctor up. There's still hope though, sure isn't it only a rumour at this stage. I mean if the BBC are to believed, the only person who really knows what's happening is Steven Moffat.
"Sorry folks, but even we don't know what's going to happen at Christmas, it's not been written yet" the broadcaster said. "But Matt loves the show and is about to start filming the unmissable 50th anniversary, and star in the brand new series on Easter Saturday." Ah but of course. Get the plug in while you're at it lads!
Doctor Who returns to the BBC on March 30th.
