October 31st is finally upon us and if you're not in the mood to head out trick or treating or tear up the dance floor in your best Mean Girls-esque ensemble then settle yourself down on the sofa because Netflix has everything you need for a thoroughly terrifying night in.

Whether it's a horror movie marathon, a terrifying bit of telly, or simply something mildly spooky you're after, we've got your ultimate guide to get you through your night on the couch. Before you begin though, we've got one suggestion to make: Turn off the lights and disable the doorbell. It's the only way to keep those trick or treaters from disturbing you when you're in the middle of a good movie.

SCAREDY CAT-FRIENDLY SCREAMS

If, like me, you're the kind of person who doesn't deal with with horror films then you'll be pleased to know there are plenty of tame Halloween offerings in store. Here are just five to get you started.

1. Ghostbusters
You can't go wrong with a bit of Bill Murray, and sure isn't the theme tune only fabulous?

2. The Vampire Diaries
Spend an evening with Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder? Don't mind if we do.

3. Goosebumps
Fancy an old fashioned scare that's fairly kid-friendly? Then you'd best take a step back in time and catch up with these creepy R.L Stine tales.

4. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Vampires, and werewolves and demons. Oh my!

5. The Little Vampire
The kid from Jerry Maguire becomes best pals with a vampire in this totally kid friendly and utterly adorable tale.

If the above are totally your cup of tea then you can always risk taking things up a terrifying notch by checking out the likes of Zombieland, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, An American Werewolf in London  or Army of Darkness, which are all also available to scream. I mean stream.

HORROR FAN HEAVEN

If you're the kind of person who jumped behind the sofa at the slightest hint of danger in Home and Away *shifty eyes* then we're guessing you'll have quite the bit of bother with this next batch. However, if you love nothing more than a brilliant scare at bedtime, here are five Netflix offerings to complete the harrowing Halloween you've always dreamed of. Not a bother to you sure, eh?

1.The Cabin In The Woods
We'll kick off with the mildest of the bunch. Joss Whedon's Cabin In The Woods tells the tale of five friends who head off for a break to the titular cabin, where they get a whole lot more than they bargained for.

2. The Mist
Based on the Stephen King short story of the same name, this terrifying little film more than lives up to the author's horror hype. After a brutal thunderstorm pounds a small town, the residents discover a malevolent mist hanging over their homes, killing anyone who remains outside.

3. Sinister
Who doesn't love a bit of Ethan Hawke, eh? After moving to a new town, a true-crime writer discovers a cache of videotapes depicting brutal murders that took place in the very house he just bought. As he tries to solve the mystery behind the crimes, a sinister force threatens his own family.

4. The Possession
The posters alone were too much for me when it came to this one, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't check it out. After purchasing a curious old box full of mysterious relics, a young girl unwittingly unleashes the evil spirit residing within. Can the antique's new owner and her parents break the grip the demonic force has on their family?

5. Carrie
If you haven't seen Sissy Spacek go postal on her tormentors at prom then you really haven't lived. Even I managed to sit through this terrifying classic.

Catch all of the above on Netflix right now.
