If there's one thing television doesn't need it's another batch of absolute muppets, so why the BBC has chosen to bring a brand new one, based on the errr, occasionally amusing Vernon Kay, to the forefront of Saturday night TV is anyone's guess...
That Puppet Game Show (inventive title there lads, are you just trying too hard?) will take the prime slot on BBC One later this year, with the 'new face of Saturday nights' Dougie Colon (pronounced cologne, apparently) taking over the hosting duties. He's a puppet, in case you haven't got that by now.
The official blurb says the whole thing is rather family-friendly, and sees two celebrities going head-to-head in order to win £10,000 for their chosen charities. And by celebrities, they mean a few BBC presenters like Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, Gary Lineker and errr, Vernon himself. *sigh*
As well as that though, they're going to essentially attempt to recreate the magic of The Mupppet Show, by having a backstage sitcom running alongside the game show. We're being told to expect plenty of madness from the likes of muppet producer Manice to "bullish' show executive Udders McGhee. Have they learned NOTHING from those cringe-worthy Strictly Come Dancing VTs?
If there's one good thing to be said for it, it's that The Jim Henson Company is actually involved. Still. we won't be rushing home of a Saturday night to see this one anyway...
