We do love a bit of Irish drama, and what with the likes of Love/Hate proving that the country's chock-a-block with writing talent, we're rather excited to hear that TG4 have a series of six contemporary short films winging their way to our TV screens over the next couple of weeks.
The Scéal initiative gave six novice writers and directors the opportunity to develop their work with some of the top script writing and drama direction talents in the country. There were plenty of applications, from which six lucky winners were selected for development.
There's something for everyone among the TV tales, what with illict love affairs (Bás Arto Leary), teenage woes (Síle - not Seoige), corporate power play (Páirtnéir), growing up in difficult family circumstances (An Gadaí), relationships (Dílseacht) and despair (Eoinín). And to top it all off, every single one of the stories is essentially a contemporary adaptation of renowned Irish language short stories, poems or tales from folklore.
Sure you might even recognise one or two of the stories along the way, wha? Catch the first short, Bás Arto Leary (loosely based on the 18th century poem, 'Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire') on TG4 on April 24th at 10.00pm
