"I've made three sitcoms now, and I hope this one is still funny but more of an adventure series."
Frequent collaborators Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clemont are busy creating a new TV series which will be unlike anything we've seen from them thus far.
The New Zealand actors-turned-creators/directors have previously worked together on both the 'What We Do In The Shadows' movie and its later TV series, as well as its spin-off series 'Wellington Paranormal'.
Now, the two comedy directors have started working on a comedy adventure series which Clement has said is something he "always wanted to do". He told Entertainment Weekly: "Taika and I are working on a new series right now which we just started writing. I can't tell you much about it yet, but what's fun about it and what makes it exciting for me is it's something I always wanted to do which is long-form episodes in a sitcom.
"It's an action-adventure comedy. It'll be different from what I've usually done. I've made three sitcoms now, and I hope this one is still funny but more of an adventure series."
Currently, work on both of their Kiwi TV series are on hold while they work on this new project. Filming is currently underway on season four of 'Wellington Paranormal', with Clement adding: "We're pausing on ['Wellington Paranormal'], we're not sure we'll be back for a fifth season."
The third season of 'What We Do In The Shadows', which Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement have guest-starred in, will be back later this year. Matt Berry leads the cast in the mockumentary comedy series.
Waititi wasn't part of season two of 'Shadows', having directed three of the first season's episodes. Clement said of his collaborator's absence: "I missed Taika on season 2 because it was just me saying, 'This is what we need to do!' When he was there, there were two of us. So now I'm looking forward to working with him again."
Waititi has quickly become one of the most sought-after film directors in Hollywood. He recently wrapped production on Marvel's 'Thor: Love and Thunder' in Australia, and will helm two new animated series based on Roald Dahl's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' for Netflix.
Clement made his directorial debut with 'What We Do In The Shadows' in 2014, but also co-created the musical sitcom 'Flight of the Conchords'. He is currently filming 'Avatar 3' in New Zealand, appearing the next two sequel films as Dr. Ian Garvin.
