Although it's only in its first season, This Is Us has garnered the kind of acclaim and recognition that's usually reserved for HBO shows and the like.
The kitchen-sink drama flicks back and forth in time periods, and has been praised for its authenticity and charisma, as well as elevating what soap dramas can do. Therefore, it's kind of strange to see someone like Sylvester Stallone set to star in an episode of its next season, but here we are.
According to a report by Variety, showrunner Dan Fogelman confirmed that Sly Stallone will be appearing in the second season - as himself, no less. Stallone will be appearing alongside Justin Hartley's character, Kevin Pearson, and will feature in just the one episode. "It’s a war period film that Justin is starring in,” explained Fogelman. “Stallone is coming in as himself in the show but playing a character in the film who’s a mentor figure who starts bringing up some stuff for Justin’s character involving Jack and his relationship with his own father.”
According to Fogelman, Stallone delivers a "beautiful monologue about life," and "...talks about his life experience and loss and aging and the business."
The second season of This Is Us is set to air on US television from September 26th.
