The Doctor Foster star left the soap 14 years ago.

Since leaving Weatherfield in 2004, Suranne Jones has had a varied career in which she has played the roles of a stressed-out medic, a detective and even a nun.

Now she has hinted at an unexpected return to the cobbles to re-unite with former husband Steve McDonald. But only if it was for a very good reason.

“I don’t have time to keep up with Corrie but I’m friends with Jennie McAlpine and Antony Cotton so I do catch up.

“But I didn’t know Steve had a baby — that is news to me and I am gobsmacked.”

And this is what she had to say about a potential return:

“If it was for a good cause and we were going to raise a lot of money, I’d definitely consider it for Comic Relief.”
