Sue Johnston is quitting the cobbled streets of Corrie at the end of the year.
The actress who plays Gloria Price, the interfering mum of Stella, is leaving to pursue other projects. She told ITV bosses that she will leave at the end of the year when her contract ends but her final scenes won't be aired until next Spring. So calm down all you Sue Johnston fans we have her for another while yet.
It is unsure how she will leave the show but we can confirm she won't be killed off. Which leaves the door open for her if she ever wants to return or if the 'other projects' don't work out. A spokesperson for Coronation Street said 'Sue will be on screen until early spring 2014 when Gloria will leave Weatherfield for the time being. Bosses hoped to keep her for longer, but understand she wants to do other things. But they have no intention of killing Gloria off'.
Johnston first made her mark on TV when she played Sheila Grant in Brookside from 1982 to 1990 and recently starred in the BBC comedy Being Eileen as well as playing Jim's long suffering wife in The Royale Family. Johnston is not the only person to announce she will be leaving next year Michelle Keegan will also be finishing up with Corrie next year. But alas bosses have re signed Beverley Callard to return as mini skirt wearing barmaid Liz McDonald in October. Every cloud eh....not!
