With two deaths in two weeks Love/Hate Season 4 has certainly been hotting up and as the show draws to a close for yet another year next weekend, the latest casualty has been revealing all about their exit.
Now, we don't want to go spoiling last night's episode for anyone, so if you don't want to know who died, we suggest you come back here later.
Don't say we didn't warn you...
"It was a beautifully tragic and very real way to handle her ending", said IFTA winning actress Susan Loughnane of Debbie's drug-related death on screen last night. "Over the three years I’ve been on the show she transformed so dramatically from a glamorous girlfriend of a high-flying crime lord to a prostitute to eventually dying of an overdose and not even having anyone who cared about her enough to realise she was dead until days later. It was such a beautifully tragic story and while it was a very upsetting experience I am proud of how we did it, and the fact that we didn’t sacrifice the grim reality to make it something else for the sake of drama or anything."
The Dublin-born actress, who picked up a gong at last year's IFTA ceremony, revealed that she knew Debbie's departure was in the works but was still pretty shaken up when she finally got her hands on the script. "I had known it was going to happen as I had spoken about it with my agent and we all agreed it was best if this was the last season for Debbie. I felt it was the right time", she said, "but reading the script upset me a lot more than I had expected it to. I went out with my mother for a coffee in Malahide and I was sort of in a trance after reading it. She knew I was upset so I had to tell her. It was hard to read. I am very attached to Debbie."
Hollyoaks fans will know that Susan's been pretty busy in the UK, and with more appearances on the British soap scheduled for the New Year there's no doubt that the Irish actress will be back on our screens. However, she knows her life won't be the same without the Love/Hate cast and crew.
"When they make season 5 I know I’ll be so sad not to be a part of it", Loughnane explained. "I’ll also miss the fans of the show. I hope they still remember and love Debbie! The fans are just amazing, how they get so wrapped up in the world of Love/Hate. It makes us feel so grateful to be a part it, because the fans of the show are so funny and creative with their interpretations and opinions. I’ll really miss that. Although I’ll still be able to be involved as a fan now so that will be nice!"
And, believe it or not, she'll be trying her hand at a few new things too. She's written a book that she hopes to have published, so we guess you'll have to keep yizzer eyes on them bookshelves too.
