They've been struggling in the ratings against Coronation Street and Emmerdale of late, so the bosses at EastEnders have decided that they need to bring back yet another familiar face to get the soap back on track.
SPOILER ALERT: If you'd rather not know who's returning to Walford in the New Year we'd suggest you look away now.
Sound the trumpets: Natalie Cassidy's Sonia Fowler is winging her way back home with daughter Rebecca in tow, and the BBC says the pair will be part of a rather "gripping storyline" which just so happens to revolve around the Butcher women. We're guessing that recent returnee David Wicks will somehow be involved in the drama, which brings former regular cast member Cassidy back on what appears to be a more permanent basis.
"I feel so lucky as an actress to get back to my roots", Cassidy said. "It's such an exciting time for the show - I cannot wait to work with Patsy [Palmer, who plays Bianca] and Lindsey [Coulson, who plays Carol] again. Bring it on."
We're not quite sure what the EastEnders bosses at are playing at, but heaven knows they'll soon run out of former stars whose departures for pastures new didn't quite turn out like they planned.
Let's face it, it's just never been the same without Wellard.
