'Murder at the Cottage' will focus on the unsolved case of the French woman who was brutally murdered in her holiday home in 1996.
Sky has today released a teaser for 'Murder at the Cottage: The Search for Justice for Sophie'. The Sophie Toscan du Plantier doc is a highly anticipated Sky Original documentary which has been produced in Ireland.
Ireland was on high alert during the mid-90s when, days before Christmas, a woman was brutally murdered in her holiday home in Schull, west Cork. The uncovering of her body sent ripples through Irish media, as the search for her killer got underway. But still, in 2021, how the young woman died remains the biggest mystery of all.
'Murder at the Cottage' will examine the unsolved case of Sophie Toscan du Plantier over the course of five episodes.
The series will be directed by six-time Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan, with the Irish director also lending his voice and appearance as the narrator and presenter of the doc. The series will feature access to those closest to the case, including Sophie’s family. Key suspect Ian Bailey is also believed to feature prominently in the docuseries.
The series pieces together original evidence and never-before-seen footage in trying to make sense of what happened to the 39-year-old woman on the night of her death.
The documentary series is produced by Irish production company, Hell’s Kitchen and Dare Films in association with Sky Studios, Sky’s development, and production arm.
The murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier has been a highly discussed topic in Ireland - and beyond - for the past 25 years. Many will be familiar with the 14-episode 'West Cork' podcast on Audible, which has a near 5-star rating.
