After months of speculation, the first episode of the new season of The Simpsons aired across the pond last night, where they finally revealed the character that would be killed off. Need we say spoiler? Well, spoiler! You know, just in case.
The character who sadly left The Simpsons not-so-mortal coil last night was Krusty's dad, Rabbi Hyman Krustofski. You will be happy to know it was a quick and painless death mid-conversation with his son. Actually mid-sentence really. Krusty had went to his father to seek validation after a horrendous comedy roasting whereby his father said; "If you want to know my honest opinion of you, you’ve always been...." And then popped his clogs. Aw, poor Krusty.
Executive producer Al Jean had given some clues as to who the character would be earlier in the year saying 'the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character.' Comedy legend Jackie Mason provided the voice for the Rabbi and won an Emmy back in 1991 for his debut episode.
The Emmy clue left people wondering if bigger characters like Krusty or, God forbid, Homer could be on the chopping block, particularly as producers said it would be like the Red Wedding of The Simpsons - the Yellow Wedding - as they put it. Al Jean did say on Saturday though that the "character death may have become overhyped."
Yeah. You think?
Although we will miss the Rabbi, a little bit anyways.
