Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief: Their beloved Carra may be retiring at the end of the season, but it won't be the last football fans see of him at all at all. Indeed, Jamie Carragher's just been signed up by Sky Sports to join Gary Neville, Graeme Souness and former team-mate Jamie Redknapp on the station's team of football experts.
Of course this won't be the first time Carragher sticks on his pundit hat: He worked for ITV last year during the European Championship and went head to head with our own Roy Keane on many an occasion. You'd want guts to take on a Cork boi now so you would, wha?
Anyway, Carragher proved so popular that Sky were keen to snap him up as soon as he became available, and the Liverpool defender certainly isn't complaining. "I don't think there could be a better move for me: to retire from one of the world's best football clubs at the end of the season and then join one of the world’s best broadcasters", he said. "Until that time comes, I'll remain fully focused on my remaining playing career with Liverpool and I'm looking forward to ending the season with good results."
Speaking of Sky's panel, United boss Alex Ferguson had a wee bit of a pop at Gary Neville last week. The Sun says Fergie told fans that Gary had turned down a coaching job to take on his new role at Sky, and remarked that his talents might be best reserved for the wireless. "He has chosen to go on to the TV which isn’t wise as he’s not photogenic. I mean look at him - that’s not a face for TV, is it?" he joked. Miaow.
