It's a very sad day for Simpsons fans as Marcia Wallace, the woman who voiced one of the show's most iconic characters, has sadly passed away.
Best known to generations as the voice of Edna Krabappel, Bart's 4th Grade teacher, Wallace was a respected actress who joined the cast of the hit animated series in 1990. She went on to win an Emmy Award for her role in the show 1992 and, despite only appearing in about 180 of the show's 551 episodes thus far, became one of the most beloved and recognisable voices.
TMZ reports that Wallace had been sick for some time, and passed away at her home in Los Angeles aged 70. It's understood that she would have turned 71 this coming Friday, November 1st.
As per Variety, the actress is survived by her son.
RIP.
