Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones may have been written out of the revival, but her presence will still be felt during the series.
The 'Sex and the City' revival without Samantha will see Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis return as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbs, and Charlotte York. Following the announcement recently, fans were thrilled with the news.
'And Just Like That' will be the title of the new 10-episode series, which will premiere on HBO Max in 2022.
There was one snag and cause for concern though - Kim Cattrall will not return. The four best friends will be down to three, as the women live out their lives in New York City in their mid-to-late 50s. Sarah Jessica Parker made reference to her absence following the announcement of the series.
However, it appears that Samantha's name will be discussed by the characters, with them classing it as a "fading friendship".
HBO Max content officer Casey Bloys told TVLine of Cattrall's lack of involvement: "Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start.
"It is very much a story about women in their 50s, and they are dealing with things that people deal with in their 50s. They’re trying to tell an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York.
"So it should all feel somewhat organic, and the friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50."
'Sex and the City' without Samantha will be an interesting premise. We must take into consideration that even though this will be a series based on characters we know and love, fast-forwarding 20 years will give the series a completely different vibe.
It's even been given a different name, indicating that this is indeed a fresh start for all. We can't deny though, it would have been nice to see what Samantha was up to these days.
The three returning actresses are due to make a lot of money for their revival. Parker, Nixon, and Davis will all make $10 million each for the ten 30-minute episode, which is due to begin filming this spring.
