Looks as though the likes of Bill the Butcher and co will be gracing our TV screens soon, because Martin Scorcese has announced plans to bring Gangs of New York to the small screen.
The legendary director is developing a TV series that will be based on the Oscar-nominated film. And when we say Oscar-nominated, we remind you that the movie got no less than ten nods that year, including Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis (Should he have won?). It may not have won 'em all, but it's still some achievement. Anyway, now Miramax (who distributed the film back in 2002) have joined forces with Scorcese once again to tell the next part of the story.
The new TV show will be set in the 5 points, charting the activities of the the notorious organised gangs at the turn of the century. Scorcese says the show will allow him to develop the stories and characters that the movie didn't give him scope to "fully explore". He thinks the TV show will give him "the time and creative freedom to bring this colourful world to life."
Don't expect to get stuck in the Big Apple though, because this time around we'll be off on a bit of road trip, with the show taking us to Chicago and New Orleans to boot. And if Boardwalk Empire (which Scorcese executive produced) is anything to go by, we're sure this one will be well worth watching. Won't be the same without Leonardo DiCaprio and our Daniel though.
