Rumours have been circulating all day that comedy sketch show Republic of Telly was set to be cancelled after eight years on the national broadcaster, while the future of the Reality Bites docmuentary series also had a question mark over it.
However, RTE have now responded to this speculation saying;
"No decision has been made yet on whether Republic of Telly will be returning to RTÉ2 in the spring. As is common practice for all our shows, we will review it's performance this season and over the coming will make a decision on whether to re-commission it for another series in 2017. RTÉ is committed to producing home grown Irish content on RTÉ2 on Monday nights and will continue to do so in 2017."
In regards to the suggestion that Reality Bites would be axed. this was also rubbished, with the statement adding; "This is not the case, the documentary strand will be returning in 2017 and there are already a number of documentaries in production."
