The fallout from HBO's true-crime documentary series, The Jinx, has been one of the most explosive in television history.
For those who don't know what it's all about, here's a quick recap. The series was a mixture of interviews and recreations of three murders that were tied to Robert Durst, an eccentric millionaire who - at the very end of the filmed interviews for the series - had a 'hot mic' moment where he allegedly and inadvertently admitted to murdering the three people in question.
The series was aired on HBO and, after a number of days, Durst was arrested on foot of his remarks in New Orleans with $40,000 in cash, a mask, a .38 revolver and marijuana in his possession. He had checked into the hotel under a fake name and was brought in for questioning by police.
Durst was interviewed for three hours - with no attorney present - and said that he was high on meth during many of the interviews filmed for The Jinx.
"I was on meth, I was on meth the whole time... it should have been obvious," Durst claimed in the wide-ranging interview with L.A. County Deputy District Attorney John Lewin in a jailhouse in New Orleans. "I think the reason I did it had to be because I was swooped, speeding," he explained.
A transcript of the interview, which took place on March 15th, 2015, was filed yesterday in Los Angeles Superior Court as part of the murder trial for Susan Berman. Berman, who was a friend of Durst's, was found dead with a bullet to the back of her head in her home in Beverly Hills in 2000. Durst has been charged with her murder and has plead not guilty.
He's currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for illegal possession of the .38 revolver found on him when he was initially arrested in 2015.
