Beloved sci-fi series 'Quantum Leap' will live again, with a reboot series greenlit by NBC.
A reboot of the famous series was given the green light by NBC this week, with the show due to leap onto American screens for the 2022-2023 television season.
As reported earlier this year, a pilot episode was commissioned by NBC with a view to producing a full-fledged season, and this has resulted in the show being given a new lease of life.
Per TVLine, the 'Quantum Leap' revival picks up 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett (played by Scott Bakula in the original series) stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished.
Now a new team has been assembled to restart the project in the hopes of understanding the mysteries behind the machine, and the man who created it.
'Kevin Can F**K Himself' star Raymond Lee will play the lead role of Dr. Ben Seong, described as "a man of faith and a world-renowned physicist" that is working on the 'Quantum Leap' project.
'Ghostbusters' star Ernie Hudson will star as Magic, a military veteran and the head of the Quantum Leap project.
Original star Scott Bakula isn't involved with this project, and original star Dean Stockwell passed away last November, meaning a reunion of Sam and Al is off the table.
However there will still be a strong link to the original show - creator Don Bellisario will serve as an executive producer on the show, giving it a stamp of approval.
First airing in 1989, 'Quantum Leap' was one of the cult hits of 90s television.
The show followed Dr. Sam Beckett, a scientist working on an accelerator who finds himself hopping between different time periods in an attempt to go back to his own time.
Scott Bakula received 4 Emmy nods for his role as Dr. Sam Beckett, and his co-star Dean Stockwell also received 4 Emmy nominations for his role as Sam's mentor Al.
'Quantum Leap' infamously ended on a cliffhanger in 1993, with Sam trying to make one final last leap home, but with the show suddenly being cancelled, a title card told viewers that the leap wasn't successful.
The 'Quantum Leap' reboot will could later this year in the United States, and we'll keep you posted on a possible Irish/UK air date closer to the time.
In the meantime, let's enjoy the iconic intro.
