It's been quite the couple of weeks for Siobhan on Love/Hate. Be warned, massive SPOILERS below.
Last night's Love/Hate might just have been the tensest hour on Irish television EVER and poor Siobhan was caught right in the middle of it. After she accidentally-on-purpose dispatched Pauley last week, Siobhan was forced to explain herself to Terence Big Balls and - with the help of some perfectly times waterworks - Terry bought her story hook, line and sinker.
Of course, it was a case of out of the frying pan and in to the fire for Siobhan (in true Love/Hate style, of course) as she ventured to Fran's caravan site to grab some evidence to put Nidge away - only for the newly-escaped Frano to murder poor ol' Dean right in front of her eyes. Ah Deano, we hardly knew ye.
Let's recap some of last night's key points from the most nail-baiting hour of Irish drama in many a moon. Here's what we learned:
Siobhan holds the key to the entire series
However season 5 of Love/Hate wraps itself up, Siobhan will be right at the centre of it. Charlie Murphy has excelled this season and her sob story explaining the (completely fictional) details of Pauley's demise to Terrence was some of the best acting in the show's history. The complexities of her character (Nidge's niece, police informant, murderer of Pauley, witness to Deano's death) are continuing to unravel and you get the impression that things are going to get worse before they get better for her.
Deano meets his maker
Will Nidge locate the rat in his operation?
Elmo is banged up now after being caught hauling a few blocks of contraband around town, confirming to Nidge that their operation is under threat. Nidge, though, is completely oblivious to it being Scotty who he has hired to sit behind the wheel on one of Nidge's drug runs. The balance seems to be tipping in Moynihan's favour but Scotty's relationship with Nadine might undermine all the good work so far.
Janet is awesome
Brothel boss Janet remains one of the only characters in the show who can tell Nidge to 'eff off' without much fear of repercussion, even if for a moment it seemed that he was suspecting she was the person feeding information to the Gardai. Thankfully, Nidge saw sense and Janet doesn't appear to be in much danger. All of that could change at a moment's notice though, such is the beauty of this show.
There's only one episode left in this season and, after the relatively negative feedback to the ending of season four, you can expect season 5 to go out with a bang. Literally.
