Have you started watching Big Little Lies yet? If not, get on it already because it makes for deliciously addictive TV and has a ridiculously great cast with Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern all in leading roles.
Those that are watching will know that Nicole Kidman's character Celeste is in an abusive relationship with Alexander Skarsgard's character Perry and their scenes together were quite violent at times. While we all know Celeste has suffered terrible bruising at the hands of Perry, it turns out that it was difficult for Kidman herself to avoid bruises, and would return home black and blue.
Her husband, Keith Urban, was very upset about this, Kidman told Vogue in a interview: "He was devastated seeing it, but then he would say, 'But I have an artist wife!' He knows that’s how I work; I don’t even notice it half the time."
Nicole went on to say: "I didn’t realize how much of it penetrated me. I would go home at night sometimes and be in a lot of pain, and I had to take things like Advil because I was being thrown around physically. I was really bruised."
It wasn't all bad for the actress though who said she "loved" playing Celeste "because she was a beautifully written character," adding that playing opposite Skarsgard "was amazing".
"That’s what we all seek as actors," she said. "But at the same time, when I walked away from it, I remember thinking that was the deepest I’ve gone in terms of finding and losing things."
She really is incredible in the show, as are all the actors in fairness. You can catch Big Little Lies on Sky Atlantic on Mondays at 9pm.
