Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man! What's not to love?
This is not your typical friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man though, but Spider-Man Noir.
You may have seen him in the Academy Award-winning animated film 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' where Nicolas Cage voiced the crime-fighting 1930s detective/superhero.
The show, 'Noir', will mark Cage's first regular TV role. MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video will make it with the announcement made at Amazon’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Tuesday.
"Expanding the Marvel universe with 'Noir' is a uniquely special opportunity and we are honoured to bring this series to our global Prime Video customers," said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. "The extremely talented Nicolas Cage is an ideal choice for our new superhero and the accomplished producing team with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Amy Pascal, and the incredible team at Sony is dedicated to expanding this franchise in the most authentic way."
According to the official logline, 'Noir' will tell the story "of an ageing and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero."
Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios said, "We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series! No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character."
No doubt Cage will give it his all. He always does.
Cage can be seen next in Irish director Lorcan Finnegan's 'The Surfer', which will receive its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival 2024.
