It's started. Much like Antony Costa off Blue got the ball rolling for his disbanded band members, Nicky off Westlife is paving the way for Cian, Mark and Shane by appearing on Strictly Come Dancing (AKA Dancing On Ice but with no balls).

Byrne, who appeared on The One Show last Friday, said: "It feels strange. I mean I'm excited, scared to death. Most of my dance career has been spent sitting on a stool with Westlife." And there was the finger clicking, Nicky, don't forget the finger clicking. And getting up off the stools at the key change. Most important.

Of his all-important wardrobe, Nicky divulged: "We were over last week and we met all the contestants and we met all the wardrobe girls who had plenty of fun putting some stuff on us. They made us put on this sequinned diamante vest, with no material only diamantes and I thought, 'You're never going to see me in that'." I dunno, Nicky, it's a step up from the denim tuxedo.

You can see Nicky shimmy his bits off from Saturday September 15th at 6.30pm on BBC1. Why, yes, it is on incredibly early this year. I'm not sure why they're trying to avoid an X Factor class as it's beyond pants this year. I hear. I've not brought myself to watch an episode of it as yet.

Nicky will be competing against Olympians Victoria Pendleton and gymnast Louis Smith (no pressure, Nicky, they’ve not got the finger clicking under their belts), as well as Kimberly Walsh off Girls Aloud, actress Dani Harmer, and Richard Arnold (recently shunted off ITV's Daybreak). Unconfirmed names include kiddies presenter Johnny Ball, model Jerry Hall, Fern Britton and actor Colin Salmon.

Nicky is in with a chance though; Rickaay who used to be in EastEnders and Lisa Riley who used to be on Emmerdale are also rumoured to be competing.
