Edie Falco, Steve Buscemi and Dick Cavett were among the mourners who gathered in New York City this morning to pay their respects at Sopranos star James Gandolfini's funeral. They joined friends and family to celebrate the life of the actor who suffered a heart attack while on holiday in Italy last week. He was 51-years-old.
Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria Thomas were also spotted entering the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, where Gandolfini's widow Deborah Lin and Sopranos creator David Chase were expected to lead the tributes to the father of two. The Associated Press reports that 1,500 seats were set up within the cathedral to allow fans of the show to attend the ceremony. They were allocated places as soon as all of Gandolfini's family and friends had been seated.
The family attended a private wake on Wednesday evening in New Jersey, while Broadway theatres payed homage to the great Tony Soprano by dimming their marquee lights. "It's a nightmare for the whole family. It's a horrible, horrible thing, everybody is just devastated" Bob Price, the husband of one of James' cousins, told the New York Daily News: "This man was everybody's hero. It's just the worst thing that could have happened."
We're with you on that one Bob. Another one gone too soon.
RIP
