In 1996, America was gripped by the shocking murder of six year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey.

The investigation, which is still open to this day, was followed closely by media and the public throughout its twenty years and has remained as one of the most bizarre unsolved murders in recent history. Despite all the public interest, intense investigation by police and years upon years of analysis, there is still no suspect in JonBenet Ramsey's death.

Casting JonBenet is a new documentary, directed by Kitty Green, that will investigate the murder some twenty years after and features interviews with locals in Boulder, Colorado, where JonBenet Ramsey lived with her family. The documentary reflects on the impact Ramsey's murder had on parents and children in Colorado and the wider public consciousness as well.

Before it's released on Netflix, the documentary will screen at Sundance Film Festival in competition. Speaking to Variety, Netflix's VP of Original Documentary Programming Lisa Nishimura said that "Netflix is the ideal home for showcasing Kitty’s sharply-rendered vision of a mythic American tragedy to a global audience, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the crime."

Casting JonBenet will be available on Netflix in the next few months.
