Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos casually mentioned to USA Today while talking up the streaming services 31 Emmy nominations, that the much loved former network show Arrested Development would get a fifth season.
While he didn't go into specifics, Sarandos riffed that the only issue was sorting out the large casts schedules to bring the season together. We'd assume that this means series creator Mitch Hurwitz has been in discussions about where the season will go already and that the cast are either locked down to a contract or more than willing to come back.
Netflix are knocking it out of the park at the minute and the barrage of Emmy nominations really just confirm that. They have countless original shows in development and with the likes of House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, they're raising the bar for the network and cable stations without the pressure of delivering huge ratings - which are intrinsically reported on a daily basis by the entertainment media.
Comedian Chelsea Handler will begin a weekly chat show in 2016 also, giving them an entire new angle and allowing her to work without the censorship constraints of basic cable.
