Saturday - 21.15
RTE 2 - Noah
Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson and Ray Winstone star in this Biblical epic about Noah's flood and the creation of the Ark. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, the film owes a huge debt to the likes of Lord Of The Rings in how it treats it as a mythology and allegory more than actual fact. It's a bit of a mess in places, but it's definitely worth it for the cinematography and music by Clint Mansell.

Channel 4 - Nightcrawler
Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this creepy neo-noir thriller about an unhinged loner who slithers his way into the world of first-on-the-scene sensationalist TV news, and increasingly becomes more unhinged and ruthless as the story progresses. Co-starring Rene Russo and Riz Ahmed, it's a blending of Drive's neon-drenched cityscapes and Sidney Lumet's Network. Gyllenhaal should have been given all the acting gongs for his performance in this, too.

BBC 2 - Drive
Speaking of Drive, if Nightcrawler wasn't enough long silences in Los Angeles for you, the original and (arguably) better film is here. It's the film that effectively kicked off a renaissance of '80s pop culture and also reminded us that nobody can play an asshole better than Al Brooks. Great soundtrack, looks incredible, it's got Ron Perlman and a head-stamping scene. What more can you legitimately ask for in a film?
