1988 cult classic film Heathers has been reimagined as a 10 episode TV series, which will begin airing in the US this March.
The show's creator, Jesse Micallef, was speaking yesterday at a press tour event and revealed details about what we can expect from the series. The original film was very dark, so there is an obvious fear that this reboot will be toned down for a 2018 TV audience. As Bustle reports, Micallef reassured fans by saying, "It's dark, its edgy, we're trying to show them as they really are. Unlike the film, we have a lot more time to get into what makes these characters click."
The new Heathers clique will include a plus-size Heather, an African-American Heather and a gay Heather but the original group dynamics will remain in place.
He also revealed that original Heathers star, Shannen Doherty, has been cast on the show for a three episode arc. No details of her role have been revealed other than it is a pivotal part.
We're intrigued to see this show, and how they manage to translate the tone of the original to a modern setting. No details on an Irish air date yet but we hope someone will pick it up.
