Well there go all my hopes of a Mary/Branson romance. Allen Leech has only gone and said he doesn't think it will be happening because it wouldn't be right for the characters to get together. Boo-urns. Maybe that's why he looks like such a sad little revolutionary, Michelle Dockery is a bit of a babe...
Last season saw Mary and Tom go through their fair share of heartbreak, both losing the respective loves of their lives and being left to bring up babies alone. The idea of the pair forming a formidable alliance first danced through our heads when Mary stood up for Branson at the dinner table, but we kept it to ourselves because, y'know, Cousin Matthew was still with us and all.
"While it would be great for drama, I don't think it would be right for those two [to get together]," our Allen told TV Guide."As much as they respect each other, they come from very different worlds." And so did Branson and Sybil, but that never stopped them eh? As long as they don't send him off with Rose we'll be happy enough!
Meanwhile, Mary's still got a few suitors lined up, including Welsh actor Tom Cullen. Watch this space.
