Last time we saw them on screen together one of them had just had the other 'whacked' but now former Love/Hate co-stars Aidan Gillen and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor are teaming up to star in RTE's brand new drama about former Taoiseach Charlie Haughey.
The new three-part drama goes into production next week and sees Gillen taking on the role of the disgraced former politician, while Vaughan-Lawlor stars as his trusted spin doctor PJ Mara. The lads are joined by Ripper Street and Gosford Park's Lucy Cohu as Terry Keane.
Gavin O’Connor, Risteard Cooper, Peter O’ Meara, Frankie McCafferty and Love/Hate's Laurence Kinlan are all among the supporting cast of the drama which is loosely titled Charlie. It will tell the tale of his 1979 bid for power, before taking us on a rollercoaster ride through his political career, right up until his departure from politics in 1992.
“As the unprecedented audience for this week’s opening episode of Love/Hate shows, the Irish public have a great appetite for quality Irish drama" said RTE One Channel Controller George Dixon. "I'm delighted that we are in a position through our partnership with the BAI to deliver another landmark Irish drama series to viewers and to support the independent production sector in Ireland"
Don't expect this one to land on your TV screens too soon though: The cast and crew will be filming for the next nine weeks, so it'll be a while before an official broadcast date is confirmed.
Still, John Boy and Nidge are back together. That's most definitely something to get excited about, right?
