Kirsten Dunst did some of the best work of her career last year with her role as Peggy Blomqvist on season two of Fargo and it looks like she plans to stay on the small screen for her next project.
According to Deadline, Dunst is attached to star in a new TV series being produced by George Clooney and his partner Grant Helsov. What's more, the series will be helmed by The Lobster director, Yorgos Lanthimos.
The report from Deadline describes "On Becoming A God" as a darkly comedic story about the cult of free enterprise and one woman’s relentless pursuit of the American Dream in the early ’90s. Recently widowed and left with nothing, Orlando water park employee Krystal Gill (Dunst) lies, schemes and cons her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise — the cultish, flag-waving, multibillion-dollar pyramid scheme that drove her to ruin in the first place.
Anyone whose seen The Lobster, or indeed any of Yorgos Lanthimos' previous work will know that the term "darkly comic" barely covers the tone of work that the Greek filmmaker usually produces. However we think Dunst could be perfectly suited to Lanthimos' style. As we already mentioned, she was terrific in Fargo, particularly in the series' more lighthearted scenes.
The series is being developed by AMC which has produced among others, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead, in the past.
